Who are the top #Agvocates of 2017?
The term Agvocate, attributed jointly to Mike Haley (@farmerhaley), Ray Prock (@rayprock) and Darin Grimm (@kansfarmer), was intended to describe agricultural advocates. Agvocates embrace social media to proactively share information about agriculture and the issues of the day through the lens of farmers & food producers. Led by the AgChat Foundation the goal has been to get more agricultural individuals to speak up.
Although there are hundreds of farmers, ranchers and agricultural professionals willing to share their viewpoints until now noone has attempted to put together a comprehensive list of active #Agvocates, Ag companies, Agri media and agricultural organizations. Using Klout (klout.com) as a way to compile an independent list of influencers on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, Klout itself, Wikipedia and other social media sites combined.
The AgChat Foundation defines agvocacy as:
“… a combination of agriculture and advocacy. The inherent active nature of the word has led many farmers and others in ag to make it a favorite for many in the #AgChat community and spread it to other channels and personal conversations. Agvocacy is not about targeting any selected group, such as media or elected officials – it’s representative of ag proactively telling our story.”
One of AgChat’s founders, Mike Haley, recommends on his webpage, “Just Farmers,” that agvocates need to be proactive and listen to others’ concerns; connect with those outside of agriculture who are curious about today’s farmers and farming practices. He writes, “Agvocating is one way to get information about agriculture to the people who are interested.” Further information from his blog is available here: http://haley-farms.com/blog/our-blog/
